Evernote is a browser based note tracking, web clipping tool. It allows you to easily clip web pages, enter free format text notes, upload pictures, store documents and links and then make these available securely or shared from an easy to use website.

There is a down loadable client for use on PC, MAC and many smart phones including blackberry along with a browser plug in ot make web clippings with a single click. Another great fearture is the ability to send information via email - just BCC Evernote on your email and a copy will be stored.

Within Evernote it is possible to set up multiple notebooks for different types of data and also to tag each not for improved searching and sorting.

XMind

E-mail Print PDF

XMind is a free mind mapping tool that it is every bit as good as the major players. As a strong advocate of mind mapping I have used both MindJet and Mind Genius extensively for a number of years but this tool is every bit as good as those tools with the added benefit of being free. For $49 you can upgrade to XMind pro which gives you a number of great features for power or business user but for a basic tool to help you manage your thoughts the basic XMind does the trick.

Last Pass

E-mail Print PDF

Last Pass is an excellent browser based tool for managing your user credentials, forms, and for storing secure notes among other things.  With a single click you store your passwords and then have them auto log in the next time you visit the site, or if it is a new site then have LastPass generate the a secure password for you based on the rules you define.

Simple to set up and to use this tool replaces the various tool bars and browser password reminders that never seem to work 100%. Choose to prefill or autologin when the page is activated or manually have last pass fill the user id and password.
